To DeWalt Mix, his prosthetic leg was the path to his dream: the Paralympics. This dream seemed to be vanish when he lost his leg while paddleboarding. After an initial failed attempt to find the leg, Mix was beginning to lose hope. Ordering a new leg could take over half a year to deliver and up to $20,000 to manufacture, so it was crucial for him to have this leg in order to compete in javelin. But the divers were persistent. After 3 days of sitting on the ocean floor, the leg was recovered in perfect condition. Mix expressed gratitude for the dedicated divers, "The biggest part of this whole story is the fact that none of these rescue operators gave up," Mix told the Los Angeles Times.
