With no thought to her own safety or lack of resources, Savitha has proactively spearheaded a number of community initiatives in her village during these traumatic times. Savitha has been a Maharashtra UNICEF volunteer since 2017, and has seamlessly transitioned into a COVID warrior, using the Bal Sabha, with appropriate social distancing norms, to spread awareness about the pandemic and safety and preventive measures. Activating women self-help groups for production of masks and youth for organizing blood donation camps has helped her further to involve everyone in this village to help themselves. She has ensured that the children;s voices and needs are heard in the gram panchayat's latest Development Plan. Accordingly, systems for food distribution to the needy, waste segregation, water purification and regular spraying of sanitizers have been set up. "Respect and the satisfaction of doing something worthwhile" are the returns she gets for all this effort and she expects nothing more.
