Dr. Grant Lashley, an ER doctor in Lafayette, La., contracted the coronavirus during the course of his work last April. Despite being a healthy 50-year-old, Dr. Lashley suffered a stroke and was put on a ventilator for 39 days. His ordeal continued when he was taken off the ventilator but then had to relearn basic functions such as putting on his shoes and walking. After 96 days, he was discharged and finally able to reunite with his wife, Dr. Melissa Harrington, and three children. His experience highlights the fact that Covid isn't just a breathing disease but can also cause neurologic impairments, strokes and other complications.
