To support the ever-increasing demand in hospitals, Italian engineers have found a way to convert scuba diving masks into ventilators. A start-up Italian 3D printer business Isinnova had already helped a hospital print replacement ventilator valves. And now, the firm has started printing an adapter that converts the masks into fully functional C-PAP masks for emergency sub-intensive oxygen therapy. The company "decided to urgently patent the link valve...to prevent any speculation on the price of the component," adding that the patent will remain free for any one with a 3D printer and a hospital in need to use "if necessary." The company reportedly will receive no royalties.
