Untimely death of Sushant Singh Rajput has brought the discussion back on oft-neglected issue of mental health. Mental health has traditionally been stigmatized. The pressures, limelight, and the fear of losing makes celebrities all the more vulnerable to such issues. Deepika Padukone, Oprah Winfrey have battled depression during their careers. Sportspersons like Virat Kohli and Abhinav Bindra have also spoken about their mental struggles, and how the associated stigma forced them to put on a brave face without sharing with anyone. Sushant himself was an advocate of mental well-being on-screen (Chhichhore) and off-screen. His suicide has increased the clamour for de-stigmatize the discussion on mental health and depression. Pooja Bhatt also feels that one should stop judging those who quit as weak. There is no shame in seeking professional help, and several helplines across India offer their services free of cost.
