Ijeoma Oluo, best-selling author of So You Want to Talk About Race, comes from a mixed-race family: her mother is a white woman from Kansas and her father is from West Africa. In this interview, she shares her advice on how to create a space that can hold a family conversation about racism. She also shares her own experience with her mother and family and how that conversation went with them. It was only after she turned 30 that she and her mother could talk about racism and the work Ijeoma was doing for black liberation.
