For years, Big Soda has preyed on low-income communities with targeted advertising of the beverages' empty calories and short-lived pick-me-ups for exhausted people. Now, a law introduced in 2016 is finally being implemented. For every ounce of soda, there will be a 1-cent tax. The good news is, the tax will provide help to the San Francisco Wholesale Produce Market to buy meals for the city's neediest residents. These include undocumented immigrants, low-income families, seniors and organizations that help these groups.
