Rosaura Quinteros is a housekeeper at Dr. P. Phillips Hospital in Orlando, Fla. Although English is not her native tongue, she managed to encourage retired Col. Jason Denney, who was critically ill with Covid-19, to stay alive. In her morning visits to clean the room, she told him to keep fighting for his life. He started looking forward to her visits and encouragement; a bond was formed that helped save his life. With strict limitations on visitors and clergy, the work and presence of cleaning staff have becoming vitally important in hospitals. Beyond disinfecting surfaces, many lighten the mood, offer smiles or jokes, or simply offer a listening ear. Rosaura said, "When a patient is treated with compassion and love, language is not a barrier."
