Coronavirus has brought economic hardships for many, making it difficult to stretch their savings for basic necessities. Many people like students, medical attendants, ambulance drivers, security guards are also not in a situation to cook food on their own. In these times, a womens group in Kerala, has started an affordable lunch program. Every day, the women cook and pack about 500 lunches a meal of rice, pickles, three types of curries and a vegetable stir fry, which is available for only Rs. 20 ($0.25) per pack. For many people these affordable lunches are the only way to get a wholesome meal during the day. The women had no experience of running a big kitchen or a program at this scale, they were hesitant when they started but as they saw how the program was helping many, they felt happy and were motivated to keep it going.
