After football player Colin Kaepernick kneeled during the national anthem to raise awareness of police brutality and racial injustice, soccer athlete Megan Rapinoe also took a knee to show her support to Kaepernick and the cause he was supporting. As a result of that, in 2017 a policy that required national team players to stand during the national anthem, was adopted. Now in the midst of the protest following George Floyd's death, the U.S. Soccer's board of directors has voted to repeal that policy.
