Schools have been closed in Brazil since mid-March. For Pedro, 17, who lives in Manaus, the capital and largest city of Amazonas State. That means watching TV. "No, he is not lazy. It is because his school has become television," reports RADAR, an independent global news service. In this hard-hit region of Brazil -- which has the world's second-highest number of Covid-19 cases and, as of this week, more new deaths than any other country -- students are likely to have televisions but no access to the Internet or a computer. Enter Aula em Casa (School at Home), a television program that broadcasts classes to 450,000 students. It features elementary and secondary school lessons transmitted over major TV channels and is supplemented by teachers through the use of messaging apps. It has been adopted by at least three other states in Brazil because of the pandemic.
