On the last Saturday of May demonstrations in Seattle turned South, as late-night rioters vandalized shops across Chinatown. The next day, crews of volunteers were at work cleaning, scrubbing graffiti, boarding up broken windows. The neighborhood, already reeling from the pandemic and anti-Asian racism, came together to pick up the pieces and beautify the cracks. The icing on the cake is a group of artists who painted murals with vibrant designs, messages of support and solidarity with the Black Community, on the wooden boards covering restaurants. Local business owners and residents were buoyed by the overwhelming support and kindness of the community.
