It's a State Trooper's most fundamental mission: to help others in a time of crisis and danger. Sometimes those in danger cannot speak for themselves. And sometimes they are a different species," said the Massachusetts State Police. On Sunday morning, State Trooper Jim Maloney discovered eight baby ducklings stuck in the bottom of a storm drain. The mother duck and the one baby who didn't fall through lingered nearby. Maloney jumped into action, calling the Department of Conservation and Recreation to send somebody with a crowbar to pry open the heavy grate of the drain. With a net, they fished each duckling out, put them in a box, and kept them warm in Maloney's cruiser with the heat on. When the mother duck came out of the brush, they brought the babies to the edge of the grass, and watched the family reunite and waddle away.
