The pandemic and lockdown has thrown the economic and social situation across the country off kilter. The lives of small business owners and migrant labour have been turned completely upside down. In Surat, the textile hub of India, thousands of workers are trapped, without work and in some cases, without foodand almost always, no income. But the crisis may have also brought the community closer. Putting aside concerns of loss of business and investment, small business owners are stepping forth to ensure food, shelter, and basic necessities for their daily wage workers.
