When Rene Johnson was hospitalized for the coronavirus, his family stood outside the hospital every day. Though they couldn't be by his side, the team of nurses waved and communicated through messages in the window, offering updates of their father. Last Sunday, a week and a half after he was admitted, the nurses broke the sad news over the window: "He is at peace. We are so sorry." For days after, the Johnsons still showed up at the hospital, waving at the nurses with gratitude and making heart signs with their hands. "Words can't say enough of what these people did for my father," said Johnson's son. "I really wish I could've held his hand and kissed him. They're the heroes in this. I just can't believe what they did for us. I'll never forget it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
